Swain Techs is a trusted federal IT system integrator with deep expertise in data science, logistics, AI assurance, and software solutions. We are seeking a Data Scientist with a logistics background to support the U.S. Navy’s Support System Health Assessment Program. This role focuses on provisioning, sparing, and sustainment analysis to enhance operational readiness.Key Responsibilities:
Conduct COSAL (Coordinated Shipboard Allowance List) analysis to optimize spare parts availability and ensure compliance with Navy logistics standards.
Utilize MPBS (Material and Product Breakdown Structures) methodologies to break down complex systems for provisioning, inventory management, and sustainment planning.
Perform deck plate analysis, engaging directly with end-users to align logistics decisions with real-world operational needs.
Leverage data science techniques to analyze logistics trends, optimize supply chains, and improve asset lifecycle management.
Work with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) and Navy stakeholders to enhance provisioning and sparing strategies.
Develop data-driven insights from technical manuals, maintenance records, and operational data to improve sustainment efficiency.
Support predictive analytics, forecasting, and machine learning models for logistics planning.
Required Skills & Experience:
Data Science & Analytics – Experience in data modeling, predictive analytics, and logistics optimization.
Logistics & Supply Chain – Strong understanding of Navy/DLA logistics, provisioning, and sparing.
COSAL Analysis – Expertise in shipboard allowance list assessment and supply chain adjustments.
MPBS & Sustainment Planning – Ability to break down systems into structured component hierarchies.
Deck Plate Operations – Hands-on experience working with Navy maintenance teams and operational logistics.
Technical Documentation – Familiarity with Navy maintenance manuals and provisioning documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting Navy logistics programs or working with DLA logistics systems.
Experience with AI/ML applications in logistics and maintenance.
Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or other data analytics tools.
Knowledge of DoD supply chain systems and sustainment methodologies.

You will play a critical role in the growing and implementing Data Science solutions for our client. You will be responsible for developing advanced analytics and machine learning models across domains including marketing, supply chain, forecasting, digital transformation, and supplier science. You will work closely with the team and clients to process owners and business stakeholders to deliver impactful data science solutions at significant scale. You will have the opportunity to do your best work every day and deliver disruptive innovation by tapping into new datasets, leveraging the latest cloud technologies, and being supported by a robust analytics and IT organization.

Minimum Experience:
Master’s degree in an analytical field such as Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Operations Research. 5 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
